The purpose of encoding video data is to reduce redundancies – that means to make it smaller for faster transmission over computer networks or for more efficient storage on computer disks.

2. What’s the difference between DivX and XviD?
DivX is a very well known video codec that is used in most video and audio recording nowadays. It has become popular, especially in ripping audio and video disc, due to its lossy MPEG-4 compression that allows it to save movies and songs in very small file sizes with very little noticeable loss of quality.

XviD, as you probably know, is just DivX written backwards. This was meant to poke fun at DivX which is the primary competitor of Xvid. Origin wise, Xvid was an offshoot of DivX’s attempt to provide an open source version of its software called OpenDivX.

The DivX Video Codec is a popular video compression tool. With the help of this codec, you can significantly reduce the size of your video files without much impact on visual quality. Over the past few years, DivX has developed a complete DivX codec and DivX Media format (DMF) that supports DVD and VOB. Apple Cinnamon Pancakes

This recipe is truly a treat for breakfast or anytime really. They are quick and easy to make and even better they taste absolutely divine. Although I must warn you that if you are following a low fat diet then they should probably be steered clear of. But they are definitely worth falling off the wagon for.

Here is what you will need

Pancakes:

200g Self Rising Flour
100g Caster Sugar
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Medium sized egg
200ml Milk
2 Apples, peeled and grated
1 tsp Butter

Maple Syrup Butter:

85g Butter which has been softened
3 tbsp Maple syrup

Now mix the flour and the sugar and cinnamon together and once done make a well in the center of the mixture. Beat the egg and the milk together and then pour into the well. Take a spoon (preferably a wooden one) and gently mix until all the ingredients are combined. Then stir in the apple that you previously grated.

Next heat the butter in a pan (preferably an anodized one) over a low heat until the butter has melted and starts to bubble. Then add tablespoons of mixture to form 31/2 inch circles. Cook each pancake for about one minute until it is bubbling slightly and it looks set, then flip it over and cook the other side for a further 30 seconds until it is cooked through. The pancakes should be golden in color however if they are not turn up the heat a little but not too much. Once cooked remove from the pan and keep them in a warm place. Keep on with the process until you have used up all your mixture. It is not necessary to keep adding butter but you may want to if the pan looks a little dry.

To make the syrup butter, you will need to gently melt the butter in an anodized saucepan over a very low heat. Add the maple syrup and stir gently until the two are combined, then place your pancakes onto a warm plate and pour over your butter. Perfect!

If you want, you can add some fresh berries to your dish to create some color, blueberries and strawberries go especially well, however this is not necessary as the dish in my opinion is perfect on its own. This dish serves about four to six people, but depending on how hungry you are it might only serve 2 to four so ensure you make plenty, as I can assure you they won’t last very long!

Jewelry Redefined

Each piece of jewelry comes with a special message, and at various points of your relationship, you want to make sure that you give the piece that says what you want it to say and not more or less. In fact, depending on the relationship you have with the person you are giving it, too, even if they are not your girlfriend, you have to think about what the jewelry of choice is stating, as in what kind of significance the piece has and what you are communicating when you decide to bestow that piece upon them.

Now, if you are searching for jewelry for your mother or your sister, the rules do not really apply that strictly, it is kind of an open decision on your part when it comes to your relatives, particularly the really close ones. You can get things that hold their birthstones, in forms of necklaces, rings, and or bracelets and earrings. Depending on their preference, you want to make sure you get things that look kind of like what you have seen them wear before, do not go fancy and out of the box with style because chances are they will not even wear it if it is too divergent from their usual style. So, pay attention to their collection and get something that is in that vein. Usually, women prefer earrings or rings or necklaces over the other, so keep that in mind when selecting something for them and you will be sure to find something that they truly love.

If the gift is for your girlfriend, then you really have to take it in consideration of how long you two have been together and exactly how serious the bond is between the two of you. If it is very serious, then you can go ahead and get real jewelry like real gold and real stones, but try to avoid rings unless you want to get engaged. Giving a ring suggests approaching nuptials and unless you want to take that step, then you do not want to give a real ring at this point. Now, if the relationship is new, then you want to avoid real pieces because that will give a strange and kind of too strong message that will not be very effective at this point. Especially if the relationships hits the rocks, you will have just given away some real expensive jewelry and that will not be a very good thing for you.

Instead stick with imitation jewelry, maybe necklaces or earrings, or even some inexpensive lab created stones or false diamonds that have a lot of glister and that might be better than something that is very costly and sends the entire wrong message to the person, particularly if the bond between you is brand new. In fact, if it is very new, you might want to avoid jewelry altogether. Similarly, if you are shopping for a female friend, you might want to avoid jewelry, as it is a romantic thing.

Origins of Zero

Zero is a representation of nothing with the current definition calling it an ‘addictive identity’. Mathematically zero is classified as a number which when added to another will yield the same number. Many people have conflicting explanations of who discovered zero and it is important to note that is wasn’t that somebody came up with the idea and it got acceptance from all over the world. An Indian mathematician referred to as Aryabhata is one of the people credited with the discovery and this because around 500 AD he devised a numbers system with the symbol representing zero and an unknown element being the same.

However, this system confused many people and this led to some improvements and by 876 AD the concept of zero had become more understood which is where the its symbol was ascertained. There were also other Indian mathematicians that are involved in the discovery of zero and they include Mahavira, Brahamagupta and Bhaskara. Some of their explanations were however false as compared to others. These mathematicians werenot able to conclude that no number is capable of being divided by zero and this was the reason for the various explanations. The zero concepts played a major role in seeing the growth of higher mathematics which was a major step in the history of mankind.

Zero is also a synonym of the word none. Although there are many stories about who invented zero, studies show that the number was invented by a group of people from the Mayan civilization and it is at that time that the decimal system was being used and just as it is used today only that a space was left to indicate a zero up until the third century BC. The empty space that was used to indicate zero was also very confusing since the space was also used to separate numbers. This confusion led to the introduction of a dot that came in a place of a zero.

The first time the zero symbol was evidently used can be dated back in the seventh century AD. The invention by the Mayans was initially to be used in calendars that were used during the third century AD. This however was not realized in most of the European states civilization up until after eight hundred AD and this was brought about by the Arabs who were coming to trade. The Greeks and Romans were using the abacus to carry out their calculations and they therefore did not need the number zero.

The name zero was derived from the Arabic language however. Another story about the discovery of zero that was invented by Aryabhata who is a mathematician as well as an astronomer around Ninth century C.E. While others still believe that the invention of zero goes back to 300 B.C. in Babylon. All these inventions were independently made and were not connected in any way. Some records are also showing that the ancient Greeks seemed unsure about the status of zero as a number, which led to philosophical and religious arguments about the nature, and existence of zero.

New Style Fishing Experience

Fishing seems to be a lost art. With the seafood’s widespread availability, many consumers do not see any value in participating in this activity. Furthermore, many people have never considered fishing for leisure. Indeed, there are many fishing enthusiasts who will do so not for food, but for bragging rights and the tranquility. In fact, many fishermen will catch and release many of the fish they catch, using photographs as the only evidence that they have caught a large fish.

Even still, many vacationers are intimidated by the fact that they might need to purchase extraneous equipment that they may use only once. While it is true that you will need a pole and bait, at the very least, having the right equipment will insure that you catch something on the first try. Luckily, many vacation destinations near a body of water will have fishing charters for novice fishermen to learn the basics.

These charters will provide everything that you need on your venture. For instance, some jurisdictions require a license in order to legally catch fish, and attaining one would normally require some extra legwork. Fortunately, a charter company can provide the proper licensing for their customers, even on the day of the trip. Additionally, they will provide a fishing pole and bait, as well as instruction on using them properly. Many vacationers have found this much easier than striking out on their own without knowing exactly what to do.

Another advantage of using a boat charter is the opportunity to explore fishing in different water depths. Certain varieties of fish like to concentrate in deep or cooler parts of the water, and getting out into the deeper parts of the water might be the only way to catch any fish. With a boat charter, the guide can take their party to the desirable parts of the water, which is especially helpful if you are unfamiliar with the water.

Unlike hunting, fishing does not require a lot of extra or dangerous equipment. For families that have vacation plans near a large body of water, trying this activity is a good fit between sunbathing and various other water skiing.

Wedding Favors Worth Doing

The date is set, the location is reserved and you have the perfect dress. The rest is just details right? Yes and no. While it is always important to get the big tasks done, the success of your wedding often comes down to the details. One of the most commonly underrated wedding elements is the favor. It is a lasting reminder of your big day and one of the first chances you have to thank people for sharing in your happiness.

Wedding favor #3

When it comes to wedding favours, it isn’t the size that matters, it’s the creativity that truly counts. Consider matching your favours to the theme of your wedding or selecting something that expresses an interest of the bride and groom. If you can design a favor that is both unique and meaningful, your guests will have a gift they always cherish.

Themed weddings often lend themselves easily to fun favor ideas. If you are going on a destination wedding then choose the luggage tags with clear windows. Design the inserts with your names and wedding date as well as your destination or even include a special message from the bride and groom. Garden wedding favours could include personalized seed packets and potted seedlings. If the wedding is at the beach your favours might include flip flops, shell themed frames or even tiny bottles with sand from your ceremony location and a little message from the bride and groom.

If you and your soon-to-be spouse enjoy a particular activity then use that to your advantage. Rock climbers might supply guests with heart-shaped carabineers, poker players could deal out personalized decks of cards, cooks may serve up little pots planted with herbs and so on. Putting a little bit of yourself into your favours will make them more memorable.

If you can’t think of a favor that fits your theme or personal interests or you just want to stay with the classics then look for a way to add a fun twist. Instead of going for the standard shot glass, opt for photo coasters. You can personalize them with a slip of paper that includes your names and the wedding date or even insert a copy of your engagement photo. If you’re giving out Jordan almonds then toss aside the tulle and use an alternative container. Tiny take out boxes could symbolize your first date together at a Chinese restaurant or little bird nests could compliment your outdoor setting.

The possibilities are as endless as your imagination and your budget.

Babies Swim Early

In most cases, you will want to teach your children to swim early on to help protect their safety. If they happen to accidentally fall into the pool, they will be able to maneuver themselves to the wall and hold on until someone can help them out. Far too many children drown each summer; Something that could easily be prevented if parents were more invested in teaching their kids about pool safety, while educating them on the basics of swimming. Though your child may not be physically able to swim, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start acclimating them to the pool early on.

Kicking

Swimming In The Winter

There are a variety of exercises that your child need learn prior to swimming. The first lesson is kicking. Hold your baby as though you were hugging them and slowing begin stepping backward. This will familiarize the child with the sensation of moving through water. Grab hold of their legs and move them back and forth in a kicking-type motion. After some time, it will become natural.

Dipping

Hold your baby and place your right hand on the child’s back and the left hand on their chest. Count 1, 2, 3 and blow into the baby’s face before quickly dipping them under water. You’ll want to continue blowing on your baby’s face until they are completely submerged. Raise them back up from the water and hold them against your chest. Give them praise, relax for a little and then try it all over again. Repetition is key!

Remain Calm

During these exercises, it’s inevitable that your baby will ingest some water. Make sure not to panic. While some children may become scared, others will brush it off. If you make a point to remain calm and collected, the child will take after you and do the same. After a couple coughs, all will be well.

Floating

After you’ve gotten your child used to the dipping exercise, try letting them go under water for a second or too. This will help the child realize that they can float. As always, raise them up and praise them for a few minutes before repeating the exercise.

Breath Control and Release

Holding your child as described in the dipping exercise, blow on their face, dip and allow them to stay under for a bit longer than before. The added time increase will teach your child breath control.

Advice

If you and baby are having a good time so far, decide whether to move forward to the next exercise: turning and floating. If baby is worn out or cranky, it may be time to pack it in for the day.

Back Floating

Place the child in front of you, securing them with one hand under each baby arm. Count 1, 2, 3, blow, raise them from the water and turn them on their back. Use your dominate hand to ease and comfort the baby while using the other for head support. Keep baby on their back until they become comfortable and stop squirming.

As everyone knows, having a calm mind the thinking and problem solving process is made a lot easier. With the use of mediation, your concentration will be increased, which will allow you to fully focus on any mental pursuit that you are working on. Start practicing your meditation by following the procedure below.

1) Breath Awareness:
First find a place where you can sit and relax. Once you have found a place then start to concentrate on your breathing for a few moments. Just clear your mind and have a peaceful time on your own. Once you become an expert at meditation you will able to meditate anywhere you want. But seeing that you are a beginner just locate a nice peaceful place to start with.

2) Make Sure You’re comfortable:
Find a position that will keep you relaxed but not asleep. A lot of people use the lotus position for their meditation which involves crossing the legs and keeping the back straight, but if you find this position too hard to get into just sit in a chair. If you can lie down without falling asleep, then this may be the most comfortable position for you. Just keep yourself perfectly still and relaxed but not asleep.

3) Let Go of Your Tension:
Examine which part of your body is most tense. Then tense up the area even more and then release the tension. The best way to practice this relaxation technique is to start by tensing the feet then releasing the tension. Do this tensing and releasing all the way up the body finishing with the scalp. If you practice this relaxation every day, you will soon be able to relax whenever you want just by thinking of the process.

4) Breathe correctly:
Take a deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth. By breathing correctly the air can easily pass through your lungs. When you breathe correctly your diaphragm, abdomen and chest expand every time you breathe through the nose. You can feel this happening by putting your hands on your ribcage. This is how you should breathe at all times.

5) Concentration:
There may be times when your mind may be distracted by other thoughts, but you must always remind yourself to concentrate on your breathing. With regular reminder, the thoughts that may distract you will quickly go away. So remember always concentrate on your breathing this in turn will calm the mind.
Try to meditate at least five minutes every day. And then if you want to you can increase the time. Remember meditation can really help you calm your mind and lower your stress level, as well as increasing your concentration. Good Luck!

Philosophers of Ancient Greece

From the mythology to the culture, Ancient Greek philosophers were the minds of the day that were unofficially appointed to explain the mysteries of life and the complexity of the world. There are a lot of different things that you should learn and appreciate about these individuals. Keeping this in mind, you will be able to use this article to introduce yourself to a few of the most noteworthy thinkers of Ancient Greece.

The first thing that we need to go over is what a philosopher actually is. This is quite simply put as someone that was able to not only think through complex structure and design, but will also be able to begin the identification of the way people think and the reasons that they act the way they do. They were storytellers, weaving practical life lessons within fatalistic works.

Socrates was often revered as the father of the critical thinking movement. As a philosopher, he often pondered on what the general public actually knew and understood. He would quiz them on such broad terms as courage and love and would also spend a great deal of time explaining to people that they really did not know and understand it quite as well as they should.

Socrates was able to influence a great deal of people, and even a few of these would later become his pupils. Perhaps the most famous of all of his students would be Plato. Plato believed the world was a fallen place, and before our physical lives our souls were from some place of perfection. The good things we do and understand are derived from us remembering our souls in this ideal place.

Perhaps the most popular student and pupil of Plato would have been Aristotle. He is often revered as the founder of modern science. Aristotle took the principles of Plato and approached them in a more practical way; this made him a very influential philosopher.

If you were curious about some of the most popular Ancient Greek philosophers, hopefully you have a general idea about them now. While there were certainly others, these three comprise the most popular and well known of all of the great thinkers of that time.
